Carver Scholars Program (CSP)
In 2011, the CAAAE launched a small, school-based STEM program at Dr. George Washington Carver Elementary School. At the beginning of its fourth program year (2014-2015), we grandfathered in siblings and closed the cohort. The CAAAE, now ABEN, has made a commitment to nurture these until they all graduate from high school and enter college. This program, in the heart of San Francisco's Bayview/Hunter's Point neighborhood, is called the Carver Scholars Program (CSP). The CAAAE's Executive Director currently serves as the director of the CSP and is ably assisted by Wanda Kurtcu, STEM coordinator, and Gailyn Anderson, administrative assistant. All of the parents must commit to volunteering to help the program with its once-a-month meetings on a Saturday as well as its Dinner with the Scientists, field trips and annual science expo.
